Independence day is one for family time, finger licking BBQ and a night full of memories with unforgettable friends. This day was a eye-wakening experience for me because it was INDEPENDENCE day and I recognized how DEPENDENT I had been. DEPENDENT on people’s opinions, dependent on life to come and work a miracle that I needed to create for myself.
As a recent graduate from college, I’ve been faced with the obstacles of what should I do, work a boring 9 to 5 and complain about how much I hate to anyone with a ear? or should I fight and push for a career that’s just as rewarding financially as it is in the sanity department. I decided the second option.
I may not know much, but I know wherever I go, my passion for fashion follows me. When I’m event planning fashion shows or styling models, I feel that I have piece of heaven right here on this place called earth, but too reminiscent of hell.
I want to be happy and to truly be happy I have to let go of those that have hurt me, those that smile in your face but wish the worst for you.
Condolences to PETA, but furs are hitting men’s fashion runways this season harder than Lindsay Lohan hit rock bottom. Of course, before the runways ever declared this massive new look as a trend, stars such as Kanye West, Pharrell and more were the originator’s for this season’s new fad. From bearskin rugs, shawls, hats and neck pieces, there are various ways that fur can be worn. For a recent fashion show that I coördinated, I decided to wear a black fur that would be the signature piece for this all-white outfit.
My inspiration for this outfit was definitely Rihanna. During a recent trip to London for fashion week, she wore an all black ensemble with a statement piece of a white fur. She looked so cool so I decided to recreate her look, but in white.
I found these glasses, which I call “Lady Gaga Telephone video glasses” inside of a store on Venice Beach during a recent trip to California. They were $10 and I was super excited to find them. These glasses add a certain level of classiness to any outfit!

Whether it’s a dog’s mesmerizing eyes, its sharp, attention-grabbing bark or the way its backstory pulls at your heart like the tragic ending of Titanic, one thing’s sure, we are all faced with the obstacle of wondering if that dog will be the right fit into our lives. Sounds a lot like love, right? It wasn’t until a recent chitchat with one of my close friends, that I realized love has so many mind-bottling similarities to a dog and one wrong move could mean a earthshaking tear in your heart or worse, a set of destructive bite marks in your favorite pair of shoes!
It’s no secret that society has a disturbing fixture on an objects outer appearance and we all know that in love and WAR dog adoption, the better looking ones have their shelter cages frequented heavily, but what usually happens after the commitment to that dog turns from causal visiting to a permanent responsibility depends on how good of an owner you are, how well-trained they are and if your tasty doggy treats are good enough for them to keep doing the tricks you taught them.
To Leash or Not to Leash
This next lesson is one of major importance. There are those dogs that can run as wild as a kid’s first year at college, but still know where home is and stay loyal. Then, there are those that must be kept on a leash at all times when outside the safety zone known as the four white walls of your bedroom. Why? Because, a they are only loyal to their bone and could care less whether their treats come from you or any stranger walking past.
The key to maintaining these dogs is to have them trained. It is up to you to take in that animal for what they are initially and mold them into the perfect pet. Remember, that a dog, only continues to do tricks if they are motivated, recognized and rewarded for their actions. Once your man has lived up to your expectations on how a man should treat you, it is okay to reward him with something he likes.
Every Dog Needs Compromise
When training an animal, you have to allow the dog to do as it pleases, like by taking it to the dog park to chase its tail for five hours and bark at other dogs that it may feel foolishly threatened by. While all of this may not interest you in the least bit and can grown overwhelmingly tiring, as a good owner you must compromise. If a man is emotionally satisfying your needs, it is only fair to satisfy his.
Recognize that training a new puppy takes time and effort. Relationships do not happen overnight. And much like a relationship, it takes time for puppies to learn and mature into the dogs we all know and love. But once you get it right, it’s really right! One day, your dog will learn to listen to you, and eventually, begin to obey commands without even needing a treat. \
When I wake up in the morning, I tend NOT to have an insatiable taste for toast, eggs or even honey smoked ham, I always have a hunger that only one thing can actually fulfill, fashion. I usually jump out of bed, eagerly dashing to my little piece of heaven on earth, what’s that? My closet!
Most of my looks are usually made moments before I’m suppose to walk out of apartment, which usually makes me a tad bit late for whatever appointments, meetings, classes or schedule I previously had. This look was one I adore. I love the colors of green and peach against each other. The caramel colored blazer was a really nice touch added to the outfit.
The peach colored button-up: $2.00 (thrift store)
Blazer: $5.00 (thrift store)
Black penny loafers: $3.00 (Thrift store)
My advice to everyone going out is to mix colors that are different. Have fun with it because if you have fun with your style it shows! Plus, who doesn’t like to be noticed when going out with friends or even solo. What do you think about this outfit?
We all have those days where we don’t want to dress up because we’re tired, sick or just plain ole not feeling it for the day! However, all of those feelings can still be used to make a great outfit.
My style inspiration for this outfit was urban with a little bit of a glamour boy twist. The two-piece beige ensemble was purchased at a thrift store for $4 and the Levi boots was purchased at Plato’s Closet for $20.
It’s been months since my last post. Months that were filled with great fashion moments that I never got around to posting. The above shot is a cool ensemble that I put together for my birthday, which just recently passed. I can’t really say that I had a theme for the outfit, I just knew that I wanted to stand out and I definitely did.
For my birthday, I rented a perfect hotel downtown Chicago. did some shopping, ate at a nice restaurant, a little bit of partying and then off to bed I went.

Celebrities from the Olsen twins to Nicole Richie are known to rock the styles of Bohemian chic, but what exactly is that? This style strikes a fine line between formal wear and casual wear, between groomed and rugged – it’s what Christopher Bailey masterfully calls ‘dishevelled elegance’, and it describes the look to a tee.
For men, it’s a guy who would throw a smart blazer over an oversized shirt, skinny trousers and a pair of battered Chelsea boots as he quickly ruffles his hair whilst listening to Laura Marling or Dylan.
This is a look that has been in vogue for some time now. I’m a huge fan of the look and appreciate the varying contrast that the look gives all at once. It’s about looking effortlessly chic.
What is it about that person you see in a crowd and think to yourself “They look great” or “I love their style”? Fashion is all about having fun because after all it is just clothes! I’m the example of changing my look up and never being held down to just one specific look. Sometimes I dress as edgy as Steven Tyler in an Aerosmith music video, while other days I’m as tame as Britney Spears in her “Baby One More Time” days.
One thing that I always manage to do, no matter the style chosen, is look good in outfits that are eye-catching and a great fit to my personality and body type. In this daring look (photographed above) I rocked some plaid red skinny jeans, a royal blue top, and a blazer that I studded up (all of which came from the thrift store). my killer rocker boots, which I purchased from K-mart a year ago for $14.
Here are a few tips I on how to dress edgy:
Live on the edge. Do things even if the result may be consequential. Have fun! Life is short; live it to the fullest. Be carefree! Well not entirely; worry about things like grades, family problems, and your peers.
Don’t care about what other people think about you. Who really cares what the “popular” crowd thinks? If they make fun of you, just smile and walk away.
Dress edgy. Dressing edgy shouldn’t make you look like every girl out there. Being edgy, along with it’s care-free message, means you should dress uniquely. A lot of things you should have are leather, converse, and boots. Use bright, bold colors to your style.
Accessories. Try wearing long chains (gold or silver), bangles, bulky jewelry etc. For shoes, pairing up original black converse, (not Mono black converse. Mono black converse are the all black converse.
Extra pointers: If you need a little assistance, have no fear! Search up Taylor Momson, Rihanna or any other edgy star. their new style is considered edgy. The way they dress should give you an idea of what edgy should look like.
A new school, new friends (which are yet to be made, ha!) , but same ole me! Yes, going to an entirely new place can be stressful and sometimes you want to conform to what you think everyone wants you to look like, but guess what? that’s not me!
I am weird, I dress out of the box and most likely if you are with me in an environment you will be spotted! Who says fashion has to be just a t-shirt and jeans on a warm sunny day. Reach back into your closet and find something that fits your mood.
Yesterday, I went out for the first time at this new school dressed like this (above photo). I found this really cool and unique two-piece set at a thrift store for $3. Don’t judge me, but I bought it because I was getting Golden Girls vibes. Yes, that’s one of my favorite TV shows. Their style was always so retro, fresh and different!
I paired this outfit with some Rue 21 jewelry, brown penny loafers, a straw hat and some cool glasses. This entire look was under $20, giving new meaning to looking great on a budget.
The amount of compliments I got was amazing. I have to say, it’s much easier to meet new people when you look your best and feel confident and this is coming from an ultra shy person!
I always said that my fashion doesn’t change for the weather, but that the weather changes for it! It seems like every time I turn around it’s either raining or unbearably cloudy outside. Today, I was determined not to let the moody weather affect my wardrobe choices.
I rocked the streets in some Forever 21 yellow skinny jeans ($21), some Rue 21 strawberry red shoes (on sale for $7), a yellow short-sleeved button-up from the thrift store ($4) and lastly a multi-colored plaid blazer also from the thrift store ($2).
I really feel like these bright colors highlighted my bright personality and gave me a overall fresh look! Do you want my advice on wearing bright colors?
See which colors bring out your features
Think twice. If you don’t want to catch attention, never opt for major color. So if you opt for colors, then you better bring the confidence because all eyes will be on you.
Choose accessories that will not overdo the outfit. Go for accessories that help to tone down the brightness of colors.
In a world with endless possibilities, why limit your wardrobe to just bland colors?
