July 4 Independence Day

Independence day is one for family time, finger licking BBQ and a night full of memories with unforgettable friends.  This day was a eye-wakening experience for me because it was INDEPENDENCE day and I recognized how DEPENDENT I had been. DEPENDENT on people’s opinions, dependent on life to come and work a miracle that I needed to create for myself.

As a recent graduate from college, I’ve been faced with the obstacles of what should I do, work a boring 9 to 5 and complain about how much I hate to anyone with a ear? or should I fight and push for a career that’s just as rewarding financially as it is in the sanity department. I decided the second option.

I may not know much, but I know wherever I go, my passion for fashion follows me. When I’m event planning fashion shows or styling models, I feel that I have piece of heaven right here on this place called earth, but too reminiscent of hell.

I want to be happy and to truly be happy I have to let go of those that have hurt me, those that smile in your face but wish the worst for you.

Tamar came to Chicago on June 6, yes I know I’m just a TAD bit late. I wanted to look bold and I wanted to stand out. I don’t really have anything else to say about this. I had fun, she was about 2.5 hrs late to take the stage, buttttt she slayed. Thanks for a good time Tamar, but really wish it had been Toni instead.

Give A Boy A Fur, He’ll Conquer the World

Condolences to PETA, but furs are hitting men’s fashion runways this season harder than Lindsay Lohan hit rock bottom. Of course, before the runways ever declared this massive new look as a trend, stars such as Kanye West, Pharrell and more were the originator’s for this season’s new fad. From bearskin rugs, shawls, hats and neck pieces, there are various ways that fur can be worn. For a recent fashion show that I coördinated, I decided to wear a black fur that would be the signature piece for this all-white outfit.

My inspiration for this outfit was definitely Rihanna. During a recent trip to London for fashion week, she wore an all black ensemble with a statement piece of a white fur. She looked so cool so I decided to recreate her look, but in white.

I found these glasses, which I call “Lady Gaga Telephone video glasses” inside of a store on Venice Beach during a recent trip to California. They were $10 and I was super excited to find them. These glasses add a certain level of classiness to any outfit!

Love Is Like A Dog, But To Leash or Unleash it is the Question

Jeremy Nowell

Jeremy Nowell

Whether it’s a dog’s mesmerizing eyes, its sharp, attention-grabbing bark or the way its backstory pulls at your heart like the tragic ending of Titanic, one thing’s sure, we are all faced with the obstacle of wondering if that dog will be the right fit into our lives. Sounds a lot like love, right? It wasn’t until a recent chitchat with one of my close friends, that I realized love has so many mind-bottling similarities to a dog  and one wrong move could mean a earthshaking tear in your heart or worse, a set of destructive bite marks in your favorite pair of shoes!

It’s no secret that society has a disturbing fixture on an objects outer appearance and we all know that in love and WAR dog adoption, the better looking ones have their shelter cages frequented heavily, but what usually happens after the commitment to that dog turns from causal visiting to a permanent responsibility depends on how good of an owner you are, how well-trained they are and if your tasty doggy treats are good enough for them to keep doing the tricks you taught them.

To Leash or Not to Leash

This next lesson is one of major importance. There are those dogs that can run as wild as a kid’s first year at college, but still know where home is and stay loyal. Then, there are those that must be kept on a leash at all times when outside the safety zone known as the four white walls of your bedroom. Why? Because, a they are only loyal to their bone and could care less whether their treats come from you or any stranger walking past.

The key to maintaining these dogs is to have them trained. It is up to you to take in that animal for what they are initially and mold them into the perfect pet. Remember, that a dog, only continues to do tricks if they are motivated, recognized and rewarded for their actions.  Once your man has lived up to your expectations on how a man should treat you, it is okay to reward him with something he likes.

Every Dog Needs Compromise

When training an animal, you have to allow the dog to do as it pleases, like by taking it to the dog park to chase its tail for five hours and bark at other dogs that it may feel foolishly threatened by. While all of this may not interest you in the least bit and can grown overwhelmingly tiring, as a good owner you must compromise. If a man is emotionally satisfying your needs, it is only fair to satisfy his.

Recognize that training a new puppy takes time and effort. Relationships do not happen overnight. And much like a relationship, it takes time for puppies to learn and mature into the dogs we all know and love. But once you get it right, it’s really right! One day, your dog will learn to listen to you, and eventually, begin to obey commands without even needing a treat. \

Fashion for Breakfast!

When I wake up in the morning, I tend NOT to have an insatiable taste for toast, eggs or even honey smoked ham, I always have a hunger that only one thing can actually fulfill, fashion. I usually jump out of bed, eagerly dashing to my little piece of heaven on earth, what’s that? My closet!

Most of my looks are usually made moments before I’m suppose to walk out of apartment, which usually makes me a tad bit late for whatever appointments, meetings, classes or schedule I previously had. This look was one I adore. I love the colors of green and peach against each other. The caramel colored blazer was a really nice touch added to the outfit.

Blazer: $5.00 (thrift store)

Black penny loafers: $3.00 (Thrift store)

My advice to everyone going out is to mix colors that are different. Have fun with it because if you have fun with your style it shows! Plus, who doesn’t like to be noticed when going out with friends or even solo. What do you think about this outfit?

ILL-ogical Perception

We all have those days where we don’t want to dress up because we’re tired, sick or just plain ole not feeling it for the day! However, all of those feelings can still be used to make a great outfit.

My style inspiration for this outfit was urban with a little bit of a glamour boy twist. The two-piece beige ensemble was purchased at a thrift store for $4 and the Levi boots was purchased at Plato’s Closet for $20.

Burrr, It’s Cold Outside!

Jeremy Nowell

If you’re anything like me then you probably hate trading in those sexy over-sized tank tops and boat shoes after summer’s heat has been replaced with winter’s unforgiving chill, however, there’s still a way to look fashionable in the winter as well.

Everyone knows winter is all about the layers! DO buy a lot of dense thick sweater! Keep your eyes open for cashmere, as well. To avoid freezing, find the chic scarf that will keep you warm inside and outside as well.

Forget Beyonce, I’m “Drunk In Fashion”

Jeremy Nowell

Jeremy Nowell

A wise woman once sang a song about being “Drunk In Love” while drinking watermelon, of course this wise woman was Beyonce AKA King Bey. I’m a little too young and carefree to know anything about love, but I sure do know what it means to be Drunk In Fashion.

I suppose for me the thing that I love most about fashion is what it ultimately seeks to do; make life more beautiful than it is by making people look and/or feel more beautiful than they otherwise might. But there’s also that part of fashion that seeks to challenge beauty, to change the collective eye and propose new ideas of what beauty can be.

It’s been months since my last post. Months that were filled with great fashion moments that I never got around to posting. The above shot is a cool ensemble that I put together for my birthday, which just recently passed. I can’t really say that I had a theme for the outfit, I just knew that I wanted to stand out and I definitely did.

For my birthday, I rented a perfect hotel downtown Chicago. did some shopping, ate at a nice restaurant, a little bit of partying and then off to bed I went.

Men’s Bohemian Street Style

Jeremy Nowell

Jeremy Nowell

Celebrities from the Olsen twins to Nicole Richie are known to rock the styles of Bohemian chic, but what exactly is that?  This style strikes a fine line between formal wear and casual wear, between groomed and rugged – it’s what Christopher Bailey masterfully calls ‘dishevelled elegance’, and it describes the look to a tee.

For men,  it’s a guy who would throw a smart blazer over an oversized shirt, skinny trousers and a pair of battered Chelsea boots as he quickly ruffles his hair whilst listening to Laura Marling or Dylan.

This is a look that has been in vogue for some time now. I’m a huge fan of the look and appreciate the varying contrast that the look gives all at once. It’s about looking effortlessly chic.
